TIDY TOWNS Ardpatrick was among the winners when the Ballyhoura County Tidy Towns awards were announced in Newtownshandrum on Wednesday of last week, the winners were drawn from the marks of the 2017 national competition, the village the category based on litter control, waste, tidiness, and housing areas. On behalf of the committee, Anne McGrath accepted the lovely plaque and a cheque for €50.00. During the past week a Tidy Towns adjudicator may have visited the village, a gentleman was spotted at various locations leading to speculation, and there are similar reports from other areas. The exceptionally warm and dry spell is leading to difficulties with bedding plants and containers, the Tidy Towns Committee wish to thank the volunteers watering of various locations.   

BLACKROCK GAA NOTES There was no winner of the lotto jackpot, the numbers drawn were 2, 3, 23, and 29.  The €40.00 lucky dip went to Tim Williams, Ardpatrick, promoter Harry Murphy. €20.00 went to Ted O’ Sullivan, Kilfinane, promoter Chrissie O’ Sullivan. €20.00 to Katie Healy, Kilfinane, promoter Healy’s bar. €20.00 to Mike Cooke, c/o Shaughnessy’s bar promoter Shaughnessy’s bar, €20.00 to Donie Hannon, Cush, promoter Chrissie O’ Sullivan. FIXTURES The Premier intermediates were beaten last week in the South Championship quarter final by Garryspillane 2-22 to 1-19. Hard luck to the Limerick minor team including Jimmy Quilty Jnr on the panel who were beaten by Tipperary in the Munster final, best wishes against Galway next weekend. Also hard luck to the Limerick camogie senior team including Katie Hennessy who were beaten by Galway, best wishes in the next match against Waterford. Best wishes to the Limerick Senior hurlers playing Carlow next weekend, with hopefully a victory and a match against Galway or Kilkenny the following weekend.  All Board Na nOg fixtures etc. can be found on Facebook and in the fixtures section of the paper as can the adult fixtures.  Continued success to all.

HUP NA HOURA Summer is here and the Traditional Music, Song and Dance show 'Hup na Houra' is due to start its third season in Kilfinane for six nights only. It will be staged on Monday and Tuesday nights in July starting on July 16th. Last year’s show was a huge success with many people returning to see the show a second time. Musicians Liam Flanagan on fiddle, Derek Hickey on accordion and Ronan Ryan on flute and singer Deirdre Scanlan from last year’s show will be returning to the candlelit venue in the Church of Ireland and special guests will also make appearances. Ciara, Michael and Rachel will back giving us a performance of dancing to equal any professional dancers. There will also be brush, step and set dances to ensure a lively nights entertainment. Complimentary refreshments will be served accompanied by local artisan produce in a candlelit seated setting in the beautifully restored Church of Ireland.
